When your wife’s CX-5 has a light that shows what gear it is in, and that light burns out, and you’re mildly obsessive compulsive...so, you have to take apart the entire center console and change that little burned out bulb.

After a few minutes of cussing, victory.

Tomorrow, it goes to the dealer for the liftgate latch fix.

It would not have been an issue with a manual transmission

If it were GM, they’d blame your wife for having too much jewelry on her hand.

We have the worst commute in the world for a manual. Stop and go traffic never exceeding 45 MPH and also never going through an intersection without first having to stop for a red light. No thanks.

I’ve had a similar commute with a manual before.. I really didn’t think it was bad, gave me something to do besides stare at the car in front of me and listen to the radio. I got very very good at driving as slow as my E36 will go in first and second without stalling, as well as looking ahead in traffic and managing my buffer. That was also actually when I taught myself how to heel-toe smoothly, 1-2-3 when traffic starts moving, light brakes and blip down to 2 when it slows, engine brake down to an appropriate crawl.

I’ve had to do this in my car. Amazing how much I missed having the light there actually. Volvo actually calls for removing the whole center assembly to do it, but luckily was able to make it work just removing the shifter trim and pulling aside a piece of carpeted trim from the side.

I’m very surprised that said light isn’t LED rather than a conventional bulb considering how new the CX-5 is. All the bulbs in my Accent in the dash are LED and it’s a base model 2009!

2014 on has an LED indicator light there but the early models (2013s) don’t. Ours is a VERY early production 2013.

I was slightly mistaken. 2015 was the changeover.

2013:

I think it all comes down to the clutch. On my pickup, the pedal is sloppy and bite at the perfect height, almost impossible to stall or lurch. A real pleasure. The Celica pedal bit what felt like mere millimeters off the floor, very difficult to regulate and a bit of a burden in stop-and-go traffic but still plenty of room to fudge and have fun. But the worst by far is the 2013 Tacoma (that I only had to use briefly). The pedal feel 3 feet high and bites in a completely unintuitive (is that a word?) location and wasn’t a joy in any scenario.

Gearing too, if it isn’t happy to crawl it’ll suck
